Big & Bold
Juicy. California cliche. All about big fruit and high alcohol. Rather one dimensional in the end, with the exception of a slightly cool anise note. Definitely not 94 or 93pts in my book. I'd only give this 90pts to be honest. The flabby structure doesn't suggest this will be a cellar treasure in the years to come and it's rather simple drinking right now. Over-rated. 90pts tops. Look to Stonestreet or Kendall Jackson for better value in Sonoma or check out cabs from Washington. Better yet, invest in some Napa valley gems or true Bordeaux. There's nothing worse than paying +$40 and feeling like you didn't win with the QPR.
Earthy & Spicy
Smells like a treasure-chest full of sweet dried fruits, tobacco, & leather that was buried for years. Great tertiary notes that can only be the result of age coupled with wonderful integration of the oak. Not the freshest 'fruit-bomb' oriented wine, but a great bargain for those who seek a prominent example of age-worthy, complex, well poised and postured tempranillo.
