Bought the 2003 of the Veramonte and LOVED it. I got this 2006 thinking it would be as enjoyable but it didn't live up to it's predecessor. It is not a 4, but not a 3. I actually give it a 3 1/2. It's like a C+. medium body. medium aroma. not too big on flavor at all. that was a downer from the 2003. Not sweet, but not bitter either. No oak flavor. I have had other wines at this rating and this isnt quite there. I'd give it a 85-88 rating in all honesty. This is a good everyday, non-special occasion, dinner with the kids kind of wine for me. Get a case for yourself for an everyday wine. For $9.99, you can't get a whole lot better for an everyday thing.
This wasnt a bad red, but it wasnt good either. This was a wine that needs to have a good pairing with it; not so much for enjoyment, but more out of need. I have had a lot of merlots that you can just drink alone, but this is not one of them. I felt like the flavor profile was uneven and sip to sip the aroma and flavor was different. Maybe its just my pallet. I would buy this again, but because of the heavy flavor I would probably just use it as a base for cooking or something similar.
We purchased this bottle of wine because it was on special and it really turned out quite to be a nice surprise. Very light character, but it wasn't as dry as other Chardonnays like we've had. It was a great wine to have around for sipping. Its not something you'd serve like at a dinner party but it was a nice wine to have just to have after a long day at work.
