Villa Antinori continues as a 90+ point wine, year after year. Only wine.com among online werchants can deliver here in Texas, but HEB, a large Texas supermarket chain, has some kind of contract with the Antinori supplier. Just bought a 6 pack, $14.68/bottle. ($1.60 more than the 2008 last year . . .)
I am a fan of Aussie shiraz. I am not a fan of this shiraz. Hard, dense top dominates, off flavors in a body that is itself unpleasant. Lacking in balance and, generally, any appeal to the palate. Enough sediment to choke on.
Slight darker visually, its underlying body is full and rich (for a white), the best viognier taste components are each distinct and collectively in balance. (Sorry about the lingo, been drinking wine for 50 years, never learned the language . . .)
Wrote a long, detailed review, hit the wrong button, it's GONE! Softer in tannins that you'd expect in a C.S. this young, ready now; berries, hint of "darkness" (pick your own comparison), the berries and the suppleness, not the mild tannic flavors, linger in the finish, my daily plonk with everything except highly spiced dishes or rare steak. I buy it by the case (I have another 200 wines on my shelf to choose from) and -- sorry, wine.com, I'm still a steady customer, but -- found it at a Texas supermarlet chain for "under $12", discounts on 6+.
Rich, complex, but already smooth, almost chewable. (I've been appreciating wines for over half a century, never bothered learning the lingo.)
