I've been wanting to write a review on Argentinian Malbec's for sometime and never really came across one that I could recommend as hardily as the one pictured to the left of your screens. Well I encountered this one last night, Bodega Norton Malbec Reserve 2006 and folks let me tell I was nearly ready to run up to my PC and write this review, right then and there. But after uncorking the bottle a wave of dark black currant wafted delightfully towards me and I knew almost immediately that I had a amazing taste on the way. Just like catching the glimpse of some attractive person on your peripheral vision you just know, a second look will confirm your suspicion, this was the case with this wine, a real stunner! In the glass the core was a dark ruby and fading away to the rim a veil red rose. As I gave it a swirl the aromas of dark cherry, currant, melding harmoniously together. Weighing in at 14% Alc. and funny the winery must have forgot to add that to the label, so the distributor had it lazered on here. After the first sip, it displayed its wonderful bounty of well-layered ripe blackberry and dark plum flavors, with a touch of dark chocolate and a splash of coffee. This wine is well integrated and immediately approachable, while the finish is long and persistent. But a decant time of an hour only enhanced the the experience. This wine demonstrates everything which is wonderful about the Argentinian Malbec, the ability to offer a wine of this caliber for so few dollars! I know when WS and RP get a hold of this wine their review's will mirror my own closely. I would guess they would give it a 92 and I would say I must agree, because the QPR is through the roof! Folks seriously I picked this up @ Costco for a mere $12.89 each. I was totally caught off guard, but enjoyed every swirl, sniff and the very last sip! Once this review is posted folks are going to run not walk to get this gem while it last! I broke open the piggy bank, and rooted around under seat cushions just to acquire a few more.

The creamy elegance and rosy hue melded on our palates ever so delicately with a clear berried expression. Wow, this a very good sparkling wine, can't call it Champagne, though it is made in the traditional method. And according to the winemakers notes, "This non-vintage cuvée (of course) is a blend of 18 different base wines". I scored this wine 90 Pt's and the QPR is 98 Pt's. This kind of quality for such a little price! $18.00 retail. If you see this on the menu by the glass, order this as an aperitif! Very good and compatible with many appetizers. We chose a thin sliced and baked french bread (like bagel chips), Gourmandise Cheese, and a Olive Tapenade and celery. Yum! The gentlemen who said to grab some Cooks instead, I say are ya kidding??

This wine had a tight beam of fruit on the front palate and a long consistent finish. A structured and well balanced beauty of crimson delight! The bouquet spoke immediately of the elegance which awaited within the glass. I gave this wine a lookup online today and see WS, liked it quite a bit as well. They seem to agree with most of my reviews, maybe they check my notes?? Not!, but I'd like to think so.. but I digress. For the main entrée, I choose the New York Strip bone-in and my wife had the Fillet and crab, accompanied with garlic mash and Parmesan spinach. We paired our meals with the Hess Collection Cabernet, Allomi Vineyard 2005, 86% Cab, 10% Petite Sirah, and 4% Petite Verdot. 14.5 Alc. Spent 18 month in 30 Am./ 70 Fr. oak. Just released March 2008. Gentle spice in the nose and front palate followed by a long persistent tri-berry cobbler finish. In the glass color showed dark cherry and crimson. I scored this wine 89 Pt's on Cuvee Corner 100 pt tasting scale. Now it's QPR score is 95 Pt's. Considering the retail price is a mere $24.00. A very food friendly wine, which is immediately approachable without the need to decant. Refined elegance for a Paupers price. Some times you wonder how any wine can be so good and for a reasonable price. This wine hits both notes in stride and takes it to the house! If you love wine and the NFL, well you will definitely understand when I say, this wine could go...... all... the wayyyyy!! Wow a long persistent finish, soft gentle red fruits, the Alc. is unobtrusive and will most likely sell out quickly! I went to Justin in October and purchased two, came home and a couple of weeks later drank another one. I just ordered another 1/2 case. Better Hurry!
