This isn’t a real Port since it is made from Zinfandel grapes in California. A proper Port is produced in Portugal from native grapes and would have a bolder and more intense flavor. However; if you haven’t yet tried a Fortified Wine and you enjoy a robust red wine then this one might be for you. I will definitely purchase Terra d’Oro Port again and serve it to friends who might not enjoy a bolder Port, Sherry or Madeira.
Light & Crisp
This wine was very lightly flavored with a slightly tangy aftertaste. I served it with paella and was hoping for more flavor and aroma than it could give me. I enjoyed it, but wouldn’t have given it the 92 rating that it received.-- Don’t think me too critical because you will love it if you like a lightly flavored drink. And I have certainly drunk far worse Rieslings in my life. So, three stars for the average taste plus one extra star for the excellent price.
This is a good wine for the price. However, I would rate it in the high 80’s rather than the 90 score that it received, but I am an amateur so what do I know? The flavor definitely changes as it warms. This wine has a nice tangy aftertaste when cold, but a bit alcoholic when it warms up, so keep it cold.--- It paired well with fish though.
The flavor of this Merlot wasn’t very interesting when I first took it out of the fridge and opened it. However, the flavor really improved after 20 minutes and after the temperature increased to about 68 degrees. It paired perfectly with a lamb and feta cheese dish that I made.
Cheese > Blue, Chocolate
This is the most flavorful beverage that I ever had. It’s fruity, spicy, flowery and earthy all at once—both in the taste and in the aroma. Very, very delicious! It also had the advantage of being still enjoyable after a month in the fridge; and of not having to be decanted.-- But here’s a caution for you wine drinkers that haven’t had fortified wine; the flavor is very intense and very sweet! Don’t expect port to be like wine; it should be slowly sipped and savored to be fully enjoyed.
Pleasant and smooth Cava. Very similar to Cristalino Brut, at least to my amateur pallet, but slightly more expensive.
