This is on par with a typical $15 Cab Sauv. The wine is balanced fairly well but does not drink well alone...it needs food. I had it with braised shortribs and again with roast chicken and it held up. Without food, the finish comes across bitter; but with food there is a nice level of oak, plum and maybe some cedar back there.
It's not like I think this is the finest wine around, but I give it 5 stars for price as compared to quality. This deep red is ripe and lucious. It reminds me of all the qualities those $9 rosemount Shiraz blend bottles, but provides much better quality...kind of like everything that $9 bottle wishes it was. This is a jammy wine with light oak and a familiar spice (pepper?) on the finish.
This wine is a screwtop, and at first taste is nothing to write home about. let it breathe for 5 minutes and you begin tasting complexity in the wine. Another 5 and you get chocolates and tobacco. Another 5 and you get cloves/berries. and on and on and on. this is an intriguing wine because of its unique personality
For $20, I'd buy this wine again. It is a good example of a medium/lighter bodied red that is well balanced from your nose to stomach. I feel like you need to enjoy this with Italian food to get the best out of it, but I'd drink this any day of the week on its own.
