Caution to those of you looking for a relaxing evening at home with a nice Pinot. There is nothing "nice" about this wine. Its density and mouth filling viscosity are very atypical for the varietal. Possibly the heaviest Pinot I've ever had. And it is HOT from start to finish, making it very difficult to capture both the nose and palate. In fact, the alcohol almost completely masks the nose right now. However, on the palate the patient drinker will be able to discern the macerated cherry up front, followed by a strong presence of caramel and butterscotch (I swear) on the mid-palate, and the standard menthol/eucalyptus finish. Make no mistake - in five years, this will be a stunner of a Pinot, but drinking it now or any time within the next three years will do the wine an injustice. And don't make this your second bottle of the evening, because you'll be on the floor by the time you finish it. That, or dancing on flagpoles....
