Apothic Red Blend 2010

This wine, although a little on the timid side, is delightful. Full of fruit and gentle on the pallet and tongue. Tannins are very soft and has a fruity finish. This would be a good entry level red for someone looking to move from whites. Be careful though, this wine is VERY approachable if you catch my drift!

You know? This is a pretty damn good wine for the price. A nice earthy nose, medium body and a nice finish. I've had wines twice the price and not as good. I actually could make this my everyday go to wine. It is a steal!

Chateau Peyros Madiran Tannat-Cabernet 2006

I've changed to 4 stars because I tasted for 5 consecutive nights under vacuum. Each pour was better than the last until the 5th pour which showed the true character of this wine. This wine needs a lot of air to show its potential. Starts off one dimensional with little fruit and much tannins. By the 5th pour it was wonderful with dark berries and a nice smooth finish. If drinking the entire bottle make sure to decant for at least 2 hours with occasional swirling.

To drink all at once I would decant and swirl, leave for 30 minutes. Then enjoy! The key to this wine is air. The first pour was good but the second pour one day later, just lightly corked was so much better. The nose was more pronounced and the berries were more pronounced. I would say the balance of Tannins, acidity and fruit was best by the 3rd pour .

Jim Barry Cover Drive Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

The aroma out of the first aerated pore is heavy on the spice. I can detect the Clove and bay leaf and cedar which outbalances the fruit by far. Generally, I am a fan of bigger fruit on the nose and the pallet. I hesitate to say this wine in well balanced. perhaps a year or 2 of cellaring will help. Just a bit too young for me.

For the price, this wine delivers. Drinks like Pinot Noir. Smooth, supple with round tannins and little bite. The nose is just fine. This wine is something different. I enjoyed it.
