Actually, 3.5+ stars. Color, this wine has a clean light nice color. Nose, I am picking some grassiness, apricot, green apple, lemon. It is very bright. Midpalate, clean, crisp, has little complexity, light. Finish, smooth, refreshing, clean, not really long but is ok, balanced. This is a decent and soled bottle of pinot grigio. I am 89+ on this effort. Bottled at 12.5%. Happy drinking!

Style: Big & Bold

First of all this is California cabernet sauvignon like. It has a nice clear color. This is a big, bold, and dry bottle of wine. On the nose, I get ripe black fruits, blackberries, a hint of strawberry, jammy flavor (which is Zin-like), a hint of vanilla. HOWEVER, the oak is all over the place! It is very oaky. On palate, i get something very much consistent with what I get on the nose. Nice black fruits, jammyness, there is also a hidden sense of pepper. Surprisingly, this wine is off balance! It has acidity that is not compatible with the character of this wine. It is too acidic and harsh to the point where you feel the acidity is at one place and the flavor and bouquet are at another place! The oak and acidity are off-balancing this wine. I gave it 2 stars taken into account that you pay $10 for it, which is acceptable, IMHO. I am 84 on this effort. I might consider buying it again. Happy drinking!

Actually, 3.25 stars. Color, this wine has a clear nice ruby red color. Nose, there are a lot of black fruits going on. I am picking blackberry, black licorice, toasted oak, vanilla. The nose is very seductive. Midpalate, this wine fills the mouth, nice complexity, full bodied. Finish, this wine has a considerably long pleasurable finish, comes with firm vibrant and smooth tannins, black fruits are still dancing on my palate, well balanced. It is very well made. This wine is worth the $20 you are spending. Good job, RM! I am 90+ on this effort. Happy drinking!

Pahlmeyer Napa Valley Proprietary Red 2007
(this vintage is sold out)
Price: $125.00
Style: Big & Bold
Pair with: Cheese > Semi-Firm
Actually, 4.25 stars. The vintage of 2007 of Napa valley is one of the best ever. I don't know why Pahlmeyer is not as famous as Mondavi and Caymus or Joseph Phillips, even though he deserves it! This is an exceptional effort! Very classic California wine that you only can find in the older vintages (the 1960's). This is a fruit bomb wine. Color, this wine has a clean seductive ruby red color. On the nose, I am picking a lot of back and some red fruits. A lot of black licorice is going on, blackberry, cranberry, some cassis, black cherry, a little hint of coffee and a little (very little) hint of tar that compliments the other components. Midpalate, very consistent to what I get on the nose, some toasted oak is coming through, a little (very little) heat also is coming through here, but all is well rounded. Finish, this wine has a smooth finish, firm nice tannins (not over the top). This wine is very well made and balanced. Back licorice is still dominating and dancing on my palate. Very good job, James Pahlmeyer! This is a top effort. I am easily 94+ on this effort. I can see this wine age for 13 to 17 years, no problem! You should seek this wine out. happy drinking!

Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino 2004
(this vintage is sold out)
Price: $109.00
Style: Earthy & Spicy
Pair with: Cheese > Semi-Firm, Lamb, Veal
Classic, old world, luxurious. This is really for wine experts. On the nose, you can easily pick that it is old world. There are a lot of dirt, mud, and dried leaves going on. Midpalate, there are layers earthiness and hints of black fruits. Finish, it has a long finish. It is well balanced. There are some black fruits dancing on my palate, but the fruit flavors are not as vibrant as the earthiness and dirtiness this wine has (this is a good thing). I'm not sure if I am making sense but this puts you in a classic Italian night. I believe this wine is indeed very well made. I am 94 on this effort. Seek it out.

Castello di Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva 2006
(this vintage is sold out)
Price: $29.99
Style: Earthy & Spicy
Pair with: Cheese > Semi-Firm, Lamb, Veal
Acutely 3.25 stars. This is a balanced bottle of wine. You can easily pick that it is old world. On the nose, it is very vibrant. There are many things going on. It is very earthy. I get dried leaves, wet stones, mud, herbs, empty cigar box, some spices, and surprisingly a little hint of caramel! On the palate, it has a little (hollow). It is dry and medium bodied (I wouldn't say full bodied). Mid-palate is not as vibrant as what I get on the nose, but is still decently put together. It has acidity (like good old world wines.) Tannins in this wine are very much new-world like. It has a considerably long finish and is lighter than what you would expect from what you get on the nose. This wine has not peaked yet. It still needs some patience. The flavors in this wine are vibrant the most on the nose and are lighter on the palate. I like it for casual weekdays drinking. I think it is a solid bottle of wine. Cheese is a good thing to pair this wine withe (Appenzeller & Gruyere Swiss.) I am 89 on this effort. Happy drinking!

Actually 3.5+ stars. First of all, Burgundian pinot noir is the most difficult wine to get to know, so if you are a beginner to red Burgundy, you will need someone to walk you through this wine. This is a well made and balanced entry level of Burgundian pinot noir. On the nose, there is a lot of earthiness going on, mud, a little bit of dirt (it gives you a hint of the terroir). There are also some strawberries. Midpalate, there is some minerality going on, some earthiness, and a hint of red fruits. Finish, this wine has a considerably long finish. The tannins are they but you almost feel they are polished. This wine will evolve in the next 4 to 6 years. The major drawback of this wine is that it is a little bit too light. The best way to describe this is to if you have a fine bottle of Burgundian pinot noir and you mix some water with it to make a lot of wine. However, after all this is a soled entry level Burgundian pinot noir. I am 89 on this effort. Happy drinking! Bottled at 12.5%

I think RP overrated this wine. It is very earthy on the nose which I like, however, it has bitter tannins and finish. I am 86 on this effort.

I didn't enjoy this wine. The smell is bad. The taste is not appealing. It is a dry Riesling however, but I wouldn't recommend it.
