Smooth & Supple
Luna is something of an expert with Merlot, and for under $20 try a bottle. Smooth & lush, with integrated tannins and a silky finish, this is a beauty. Its funny that while Miles in Sideways denegrates Merlot, in one of the final scenes he's shown drinking a pricy Bordeaux that contains a substantial amount of Merlot in the blend. As a wine geek, it cracked me up.
Fantastic blend of Zinfandel and Cabernet from some of Duckhorn's top vineyards. Unique, tasty, and ageworthy (up to 10 years according to the winemaker).
The hits continue with the excellent 2008 vintage in Oregon. Mt. Jefferson is a blend of Crisom's various vineyards. It shows both dark and red berry fruit, a silky texture and just a touch of oak. Very well done.
One of the most exciting wines I've tasted in 2009. Reminds me of a great Barolo or Burgundy. Elegant and intense.
This Wine Spectator Top 100 winner is drinking beautifully. From just outside Priorat, at a fraction of the price from this expensive appellation, its loaded with dark fruits, spice, and black pepper. Not for the faint of heart - very intensely flavored.
I don't tend to drink too much Chardonnay, but this one was something of a revelation. Everything in balance - just a touch of French oak, minerally, crisp apples, hazelnuts and ripe pear. It has the potential to age beautifully, although delicious right now. From some of the most impressive hillside vineyards in Sonoma.
This is a fantastic value in white wine - one of the few ageworthy wines available for under $10/bottle. Creamy, balanced, unusual flavor profile, just a wow wine for not much $.
Full of tropical fruit - mango, passionfruit and guava. A great summer quaffer to enjoy by the pool
