In reds, I look for a wine with finesse and balance. I like cherry, spice, and black/white pepper on the palate. I enjoy soft tannins and nice acidity, and a wine that’s easy to drink on it’s own as well as with food. In white wines, I love steely, mineral driven, acidic wines. I enjoy whites that feel refreshing in the mouth; not heavy, sweet, or over-oaked. Most importantly, I like a wine with a sense of place. A Tempranillo from Rioja should taste like one, a Chardonnay from Chablis should taste like one, and so on.
A memory of drinking a certain wine at a certain special moment can stay with you forever. Plus, there is always more to learn about wine, which will keep me interested for life!
