Biography:
I've been something of a budding wine enthusiast for nearly a decade now. Two of my family members are business owners and rely on wines as an integral part of their operations. One is a wine/antique store owner in NE Ohio and another is a fine dining restaurateur in Los Angeles. Also, the state I call home (Ohio) is becoming quite an up-and-coming wine region, in and of itself. All of these things combined has given me a lot of exposure to the wonderful world of wines. I'm currently a student at Miami University (OH) and am enrolled in an Enology and Viticulture class for personal interest. So, the formal study of wine and its role in my life on a personal basis has greatly shaped my interest in it.

What I like about wine:

I love the wide range of wines out there and the deep complexity that each variety offers. Whether to enjoy with a good meal, celebrate a moment in life, share with friends over a good conversation, or just to have a glass for pure enjoyment.

I shared this Riesling with a few friends this past weekend. It proved to be a favorite and the wine offered a refreshing and delightful experience. The wine has exceptional acidity as it is still a young wine. However, it has great potential to develop with 2-3 years of cellaring. I have ordered 4 more bottles.

Ubiquitous as Chardonnays may seem, this particular Byron Chard. stands out on its own. Not in the least bit overly acidic or bitter, it has a toasty, buttery taste with subtle hints of citrus, cream, and minerals as its being enjoyed. I paired this wine with a mayo and celery based chicken salad, sour cream and cheddar noodles, and some creamy havarti cheese w/ caraway. Definitely a smooth, rich, and pleasant Chardonnay that I'll buy again.

I paired this the other night with a meaty lasagna dish, not knowing what to expect as it was my first time trying it. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how well it complimented my meal. A very nice Sangiovese with moderate tannins, black fruit, cocoa, floral notes, and a smooth finish. Also, its great on its own! Will buy this again as its a real value for under $20.
