In short - EXCELLENT!! I never quite understood why people drink champagne to celebrate special occasions until I have the Clos de Mesnil myself. Everything - from the packaging, the royal golden color, to the honey & almond taste and smooth finish - was simply impeccable. It was no doubt an expensive tasting experience, but also one that I didn't regret having (whether or not it is worth it it's completely subjective).

the nose was very complex and paulliac like with the oak scent. the taste and finish however was too simple/plain. 2006 definitely needs a good hour of decanting to smooth out the tannin.

Good red fruit & vanilla-sweetness + a hint of earthy/mineral nose and taste. A rather sweet wine w/ tiny sweet after taste. But the wine lacks surprises/character and frankly I would pick something in the $20-30 range from Chile/Argentina over this, which is priced at $40.
