    2014 vintage available for $11.99

Tasting notes from March 2015: Lovely sweet fruit aromas – peaches, apricot, and tropical fruits, with some light terpene components in the background. Complex peach, apple, and lime flavors with a mineral background. A light touch of residual sugar shows in the initial flavors, but that is replaced by a dry finish as the lime flavor component takes control. Residual sugar and acid levels put this wine on the borderline between slightly sweet and medium sweet; comes across on the slightly sweet (off-dry) side. Second night a repeat of the first night. On the third night, aromas a little less bold than on the first two nights, but flavors remain essentially the same as on the first two nights. Medium body, very well balanced, slightly sweet initial flavors that finish rather dry. Can be served at refrigerator temperature, but a little better if allowed to warm up a bit from that. A good sipping wine, and an even better food wine.

Smith & Hook Cabernet Sauvignon 2012
    Sold Out $19.99
    2014 vintage available for $19.99
    Style: Big & Bold
Nice black fruit aromas (currant, blackberry, blueberry, plum) with some vanilla oak in the background. Oak and fruit aromas shift back and forth a bit in dominance as the wine airs in the glass. Slightly tart black fruit flavors (currant, blackberry, maybe a touch of blueberries) with oak and moderate, smooth tannins. Second night shows a touch of woodiness in the initial aromas and flavors, but this dissipates as the wine airs in the glass. Otherwise, aromas and flavors are similar to the first night. Third night similar to the first night, with only a light touch of woodiness in the initial aromas, but that dissipates quickly. Nice fruit concentration in the flavors. A touch of alcoholic heat in the finish when sipped by itself on the third night. Full bodied, well balanced, moderate but smooth tannins. A wine that has improved nicely since the first bottle that I opened in 2014, and one that should continue to improve for a few more years.

A nice Sauvignon Blanc with rich melon and citrus flavors; perhaps a touch of residual sugar. A bit of a surprise from the Lodi appellation.
