I am doing my own worldwide taste-test of white wines starting with Australia. Next up New Zealand! My preference: Chardonnay's and Rieslings.
A KC Classic! If your looking for an 'everyday' wine, look no further. A very good Chardonnay for a great price!
The 1st Australian wine I have ever tried. Definetly has a range of fruit flavors with a nice zing of lemon zest with a mineral-dry after taste. A good wine worth trying!
Very interesting lemon-lime, citrus flavor combination. Savory, dry and minerally. A very good Riesling. Wish I had another bottle as this vintage is sold out! Update: I was able to locate it and bought 2 cases on the spot!!
The 1st New Zealand wine I have ever tried. Dry and minerally with a hint of oak and stone fruit for a quenching after taste. Hard to believe its a Chardonnay! Worth picking up a couple of bottles for a solid, refreshing change of pace Chardonnay.
Interesting dry, but also light and refreshing, Riesling. I like it.
A very light Chardonnay with a nice mineral aftertaste. Interesting contrast to Oyster Bay (NZ) as they are both from the same region. The crossings is unoaked, so, to me, it seems to be missing something (as i prefer oaked). Would be great on a hot summers night and I will definetly open my other bottle of this vintage on a hot August evening.....
Nice Asian-type flavor with tangerines and other citrus flavors. Would be great with grilled shrimp or crab! A nice change of pace in the Hess tradition.
Nice tropical fruit blends which is well balanced against the acidity. Richer and creamier than The Crossings or Oyster Bay. HB does a nice job to display the difference in the regions between HB and Marlborough. However, I would prefer OB and The Crossings to Hawkes Bay (in that order)
Dry and tangy describe this Riesling very well. It has the trademark 'minerally aftertaste' with various citrus overtones. A fine Riesling worth trying, but I prefer the Mesh (by a wide margin!) especially in this price range.
More citrusy than lemony, and could use some more fruit intensity. The hint of spice is nice and not overpowering. Not a bad riesling at all and could easily be considered an 'every day' riesling. Good value for the price.
Silky and smooth Chardonnay, with a heavy golden drinkability. A nice change of pace but not my favorite.
