This was a surprise hit among a group of wines of more refined pedigree. I would recommend as a versatile house wine that won't disappoint.

Mitchell Grenache 2001
(this vintage is sold out)
Price: $19.00
This is not a giant chewy 2001 cab. But it is a quite interesting red. I am going to go so far as to call it a 90 range table red. It's a Grenache. But look carefully. It is blended with Mourvedre and Sangiovese. Be sure to decant it at least 15 minutes and you should be rewarded with generous portions of smoke, leather and oak, maybe some mint. It's a medium red (on the palate) yet fairly deep dark and inky to the eye. Dry finish. This is great with breakfast or brunch omelettes with a lot of cheddar. smoked ham, bacon and onions. It has some nice spice to it and I enjoy the leather. Is it worth the price? Certainly. Pick up a case as a daily table red that is 5-6 years old, and when you run out you will be wanting to restock. As a price comparison, consider the Coppola Rosso. This tops thats. I am getting some very interesting results from longer (2 hour +) decanting. A fun affordable one to play around with no doubt. I am almost tempted to put one of these away for 3-4 years just for grins. It drinks good right now. Add one to your cart, you won't regret it. It's got some class, no doubt. Good one from down under.
