I bought this bottle on the advice of a friend in the trade. I purchased it as a reward for completing a final exam and didn't take the time to decant it properly. So the first glass was slightly tart with a strong bite, which took me some time to drink. Meanwhile the rest of the bottle, given time to breath, developed the most delicious and well rounded taste. With every subsequent glass I fell more in love with this bottle, each taste reminded me of falling into a different candy lake in a Willy Wonka movie with flavors of berries, chocolate, and floral notes (complete with jazz hands and Oompa Loompas). I will be gifting this bottle to many of my friends this holiday, it’s definitely worth spreading the word! P.S. Purple Teeth!! But it was well worth it!!

THis is a great wine. Everyone I've served it to has raved about it. I'm a shiraz affectiando, and while not the most heavy bodied, it has sufficient substance, and incredible fruitiness to make it one of my favorites. Put a case or more in your cellar, and you will be congratulating yourself two years from now.

Toro Albala Gran Reserva Don PX (half-bottle) 1979
(this vintage is sold out)
Price: $31.99
The vintner makes Pedro Ximinex grapes which are used to make Cream Sherries different from regular sherries. He then takes a large portion of the juice and makes this wine. The trick is that he stores it for 25 years in oak barrells and just lets it sit and mellow. Then each year he tastes it to determine which year is "ready" for release. The last couple batches were 1979 (available now), 1971 (last year) and 1974 a couple years ago. Typically sold in 1/2 bottles full size bottles are made as well (at least teh 1974 release was done in both sizes). When he thinks they are ready then they are bottled and released. This is why a 30 year old wine has a new label. This is a robust fruity sweet wine. But don't think Muscatto. A tawny Port might be the closest flavor to this but not nearly as rough to the pallette as most ports. You'd be tempted to match this with Chocolate or Cherries but in real terms this is a desert in a glass. We prefer to drink it in small apertiff styled glasses as you drain the whole bottle way to fast any other way. You can uncork it today and just put the sork back in the bottle and it will remain good for weeks. Does not go vinegary. Does not need to breath as the flavor will not shift with air. When you take the first sip you'll get cherries and currants. As you let it go down the back of your throat the flavors will shift. After you swallow the residual will be yet different again. The experience is very pleasant. I've not met anyone that did not really love it.

Cono Sur Pinot Noir 2006
(this vintage is sold out)
Price: $9.99
Somewhere I read this was possibly a great value chilean pinot noir. It is a light pinot, and could have been a good choice for those who like a simple, affordable pinot. However, the slight but distinct metallic note I detected with each sip and swallow did not go away, even on the second day. I did not care for this and wonder if this bottle was tainted. Unitl I try it again, I have to be slightly dissappointed, even given its value pricing.

This was a great recommendation from wine.com. I love the Pinot Noir from Central Otago, usually at higher price points than this wine. This Pinot is a great value for the money. It has terrific aromatics and a wonderful mouth-feel, typically seen only in much higher-priced bottles. Nice dark fruits of ripe plums and blackberries, with notes of cherries as well. This wine is lovely from start to finish and is a great example of why Central Otago is such a promising emerging region for Pinot Noir. Nice lingering finish and leaves me with a desire to pick up additional bottles. You can't go wrong here, value and quality in the glass.
