Located four kilometres south of Saint-Emilion, in the commune of Vignonet, Chateau Quercy owned its name to the several-hundred year old live oak trees which border it. “Quercus” is Latin for “oak”. Originally the hunting lodge of a wealthy man from Libourne, Chateau Quercy was later owned by a family from Bordeaux for several generations before passing into the hands of the Apelbaum-Pidoux family in 1988. The chateau was built in the late 18th century in a neoclassical style very much the fashion at the time. The main building is flanked by two octagonal towers and the façade features pediments and mouldings typical of the Directoire style. A third tower on the roof overlooks the estate and surrounding countryside, including the church tower in Saint-Emilion.
