Winemaker's Notes

A rich opaque color with a red rim. The nose is pure Cabernet fruit, with hints of plums, fennel and lead pencil showing off the purity of aroma plus a little dark chocolate thrown in for good measure. The wine displays firm yet round tannins and a lovely texture. It develops on the palate and leaves with a wonderfully satisfying mélange of fruit and subtle oak flavors for a rich finish. Enjoy this Cabernet with grilled veal chops, roast pork and other roasted meats. It's also delicious with pecorino, blue and gruyere cheeses. You can age this wine for another three to five years.

Blend: 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot

This is the first South African wine I've bought. Overall, I thought this wine was good to very good. It is approachable right after openning. There is forward fruit with plum and cherry/berry flavors. Leather and tobacco with the oak and tannins provide good balance. I thougt it was easy to drink. The wine stood up well to grilled, chile-rubbed flank steak with a tangy salsa verde and rich bacon, scallion smashed potatoes, but it did not stand out. On sale for $11.99 this was a bargin.

South Africa A long history of growing grapes and making wine, but less of a history on exporting it, and even lesser on the quality aspect. At the turn of the century (1900, that is), a surplus of wine in South Africa created a hierarchy of cooperatives, the biggest and best known being KWV. This organization seemed to favor quantity over quality and had most...

Either way, this grape is responsible, as a whole or a partner, for some of the greatest wines in the world. In Bordeaux,...
