Winemaker's Notes

#45 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2010

This elegant Pinot Noir exudes fresh cherry and spiced red fruit characters with an underlying savory note. The palate is soft and supple with soft silky tannins.

Critical Acclaim

"Tight and beautifully focused, delivering a juicy mouthful of raspberry, wild strawberry and pomegranate flavors that linger on the sleek, bright finish. Drink now through 2014. 5,000 cases made."

lacked a bit of umph for me but the lighter style is typical of New Zealand Pinot's. not bad but i've had better ones.

I preferred this to the Innocent Bystander PN, which sells for $5 more/bottle. Not as much tingle in the mouth as some other NZ Pinots I've had.

very light in terms of taste and color. Not much of favor besides the red fruits that could be expected from a PN.

It is the least favorite wine I bought from, out of about 50 different ones. I was so disappointed that I wondered if I got a defective bottle. It was the lightest colored red wine I have had, color is only a hint darker than rose. More pink than red. The bouquet is somewhat pleasant, but completely over powered by a sharp, hard, and cold bitterness--maybe some would call it minerally tannins. It's a Pinot so it should be light and fruity and fragrant, but because of the bitterness it is hardly drinkable. If I didn't love wine I would have poured it down the drain. But I instead pour it down my throat :) I drank the second half bottle the next day and it was only marginally less caustic to the palette. So it was unlikely caused by the fluke of my tongue that evening. It's so bad that I don't know what score to give it. FAIL.
