Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

A powerful, concentrated Pinot that displays a spicy nose of cherries and currants, supported by charry, cedary oak. The palate builds in intensity with plummy, cherry notes dominating. The oak and tannins are well integrated, running the length of the wine. Will develop over the following 5 years.

Critical Acclaim

"Dark red. Flamboyantly aromatic nose offers piercing notes of wild strawberry, raspberry, fresh rose, violet, magnolia and mocha; smells like a Dujac wine from the '80s, or something from Cristom. Pliant, juicy and fresh, with red berry flavors demonstrating excellent sweetness, focus and verve. This suave, silky midweight could easily be confused for a high-end Burgundy. Finishes on a spicy, peppery note, the sweet red berry flavors repeating. "
92 Points

"There are only 20 cases of the 2004 Pinot Noir. However, it is an example of the potential for this varietal in the cool-climate Yarra Valley. Aged in 35% new oak, it is light ruby-colored with an alluring perfume of pain grille, smoke, earth, raspberry, and rhubarb. Light- to medium-bodied and elegantly styled, this Pinot has a velvety texture, excellent depth, and a long, sweet finish. Drink it over the next 5-7 years."
