Yalumba The Cigar Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 is crimson red with an aroma that fills the senses. There are floral high tones of violets and lavender underscored by bass notes of cherries and dark chocolate. The wine is bright with fresh red fruits such as cherries and currants sweeping the palate followed by the melted chocolate texture of the soft tannins. The finish lingers pleasantly. Try with a plate of charcuterie or antipasto. Suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
Australian Wine CompanionBright hue; a fragrant and pure expression of cabernet on the bouquet and lively, medium-bodied palate; all up, has real elegance and balance. Why it deserve a seriously tatty, pock-marked cork I don't know.
International Wine CellarOpaque ruby. Powerful aromas of cassis, cherry pit, sassafras and tobacco and dried rose, with a subtle vanilla quality in the background. Smooth, sappy and well-focused, offering juicy dark berry flavors that are braced by tangy acidity. Tannins build with air and add grip and focus to a long, dark berry-dominated finish. You could easily drink this now but it has the depth to age.
