Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Very concentrated flavors of raspberry, cassis, mocha and root beer burst in your mouth. The aromas are similar, but with a high-toned, perfumed edge to them. This old vine block is predominantly Zinfandel with only a scattering of "field blenders." Big, rich mouth-coating tannins give way to a long, jammy finish.

Critical Acclaim

"Inky purple. Exotic, expansive aromas of dark berry preserves, apricot, fresh flowers and spicecake. Juicy, palate-staining blueberry and boysenberry flavors show an appealing sweetness and pick up a smoky nuance with air. Closes on an intensely floral note, with excellent clarity and only a hint of tannins."
93 Points

"Balanced and well-focused, showing an elegant sense of complexity, with aromas of raspberry and blueberry and flavors of of wildflower, pepper and herbs. Drink now through 2021."
92 Points
