Winemaker Notes

Golden apple and creamy vanilla notes lead on the nose and then meld into scents of mandarin orange peel. While very rich throughout the palate, the refreshing acidity seems to stay focused and lithe. Flavors of yellow apple and Comice pear are complemented by hints of allspice. The essence of crushed rock is captured in the finish and is a wonderful conclusion to this Russian River Valley classic.

Professional Ratings

  • 94
The 2013 Chardonnay Allen Vineyard exhibits notes of orange blossom, honeysuckle, white peach and crushed rock in a full-bodied, beautifully fresh, lively, concentrated style. This is another super Chardonnay to drink over the next 4-6 years.
  • 90
Offers a pleasing mix of rich, assertive peach, anise and savory herb notes, touching on butterscotch. Most impressive is the long finish, which gains depth and length.

Williams Selyem Winery Proprietors John and Kathe Dyson Winery Image

Williams Selyem Winery began as a simple dream of two friends, Ed Selyem and Burt Williams, who pursued weekend winemaking as a hobby in 1979 in a garage in Forestville, California, and made their first commercial vintage in 1981. In less than two decades, Burt and Ed created a cult-status winery of international acclaim. Together they set a new standard for Pinot Noir winemaking in the United States, aligning Sonoma County's Russian River Valley in the firmament of the best winegrowing regions of the world. Today John and Kathe Dyson, who purchased the winery from Burt and Ed in 1998, carry on the passion for Pinot Noir winemaking without compromise. As for the wines... they just keep getting better and better.
