Winemaker Notes

"Wow, this is a good wine. It's filled with succulent blackberry and cherry flavors, and the oak is just right. It's dry, balanced and harmonious, with equisitely soft, sweet tannins..."

William Hill Estate Winery Winery Video

For nearly 40 years, William Hill Estate Winery has crafted rich and expressive Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and other Bordeaux varietal wines from select vineyards in Napa Valley and the California coast. The collection of wines are rooted in the character of the unique, rolling hills of the 200-acre estate in the heart of the Silverado Bench in Napa Valley, crafted through the vision of winemaker Mark Williams, thoughtful vineyard planning and meticulous attention in the cellar.

Experience William Hill Estate Winery in the tasting room and discover another side of Napa Valley. A place where extraordinary vineyards are tucked away along the serene Silverado Trail, a place where you can still discover an incredible wine for the first time, a Napa Valley that is off the beaten path.

As Napa Valley’s third most planted grape, Napa Valley Merlot shows time and time again its potential to produce exceptional results. Napa’s vaunted combination of climate, soil and the human factor of winemaking expertise lead to big, ripe, cellar-worthy and world-class versions.

Whether made by itself in single varietal bottlings or as an important role in Bordeaux Blends, Merlot continues a prominent role in this famous region. While Cabernet typically takes the lead role, Merlot’s contribution—even at 10% to 20% or so—is significant indeed. Often described as “the flesh on Cabernet’s bones,” Merlot lends a soft, round and plush character that beautifully complements Cabernet’s linear, full-throttle structure. Its flavors of plums plus subtle herbs and mint also dovetail nicely with Cabernet’s blackberry and cassis.
