This Pierre Léon is a smooth and ripe Pinot, with characteristics of powerful fruit, leather and citrus combined with a pleasant wild mushroom component. The nose displays fragrant black cherry fruit with accents of fresh berries. The mouth feel is round and fresh at first and continues to a good mid palate with persistent tannins. Hints of menthol linger in the mouth and the wine finishes with impressive length. Pair this powerful wine with traditional Northwest cuisine such as salmon, duck, lamb, other red meats and roasted vegetables. While the Pierre Léon already exhibits great elegance, it will continue to develop over the next 2-3 years and age gracefully for the next 8 to 10 years.
WillaKenzie Estate is located in Oregon's Willamette Valley on rolling hillsides in the Chehalem Mountains. The winery was named after the Willakenzie soil on which the vineyards are planted to convey the influence that the soil imparts on the wine's flavors and aromas. The vineyards are planted with grapes of the Pinot family, mostly new Dijon clones of Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris from Alsace. Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris are cool climate grapes, which are particularly well adapted to Oregon.
