Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Deep ruby red color with bright clarity. Bright ripe cherry and plum fruit aromas, underlined with gamey, spicy oak and attractive savory tones. This wine has a supple, silky texture, gently supporting an array of red fruits and secondary game flavors. Well integrated oak provides savory and spicy notes as well as aiding the tannin structure. Try this wine with game meats such as duck or venison. Can age 3-5 years.

Established in 1994 by Sue and Greg White and winemaker Simon Waghorn, Whitehaven Wine Company is a small, family-owned winery with big aspirations. From modest beginnings, the Company now exports wine, through exclusive agents, to Australia, the United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Hong Kong, Japan, and the United States.
