Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.

The 2006 Memsie red has a dark cherry/purple color. There are obvious blackcurrant, plum and spice characters dominating the nose. The palate is fresh with voluminous and forward, spice, berry and plum flavors obvious. These flavors are complimented by hints of sweet oak. The wine has great length with a persistent, smooth and clean finish.
87% Shiraz, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Malbec
"The red wines begin with the purple-colored 2006 Memsie Red. Composed of 87% Shiraz, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 6% Malbec, the wine was aged for 6 to 9 months in used American hogsheads. The aromatics are unusually expressive for a wine in this price category. Aromas of cinnamon, allspice, plum, blueberry and black currant lead to a medium to full-bodied wine with a plush texture, ripe sweet fruit, and a sense of elegance. This tasty wine will provide pleasure over the next 4-6 years.
The Wine Advocate
"Saturated purple. Inky blackberry, blueberry and candied plum on the nose, with a bright peppery quality. Chewy dark fruit flavors are firmed by dusty tannins that carry through the finish. Solidly built-in fact, almost brawny and strikingly concentrated for this price point."
International Wine Cellar
"A dense and rich wine with black fruits and a slight minty overtone; fairly robust, the tannins needing to soften somewhat. "
