Vinifera Vineyards Vitis Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2006
Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley, California
The 2006 vintage of Vinifera Vineyards "Vitis" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits notes of white chocolate, bay leaf, tobacco and sweet tannins combined with fresh blue and black fruits. This wine is incredibly rich and multilayered and has a finish that stays on the palate for several minutes. On the nose, this wine tells a story of Rutherford Dust, and intensity not found in anything at this price point.
Wine Enthusiast - "Here’s a young, vital, impressive 100% Cabernet. It’s dry, full-bodied and rich in classic flavors of blackberries, black currants, graphite and minerals, wrapped into silky tannins. Superb oak integration lends notes of vanilla and sandalwood. Just gorgeous in the mouth, filled with class and elegance. Now–2014, at least. "
In the early 1970s there were no tasting rooms in the Napa Valley and prunes were the dominant crop, but there was a history of wine grape cultivation in the area and a handful of families, including my own, saw the potential. Back then the idea was to prove that we could make great wines here, wines to rival those of weightier pedigrees. The Beckstoffer family established Vinifera Vineyards in 1973, and we've been growing grapes ever since.
Fast forward 40 years, and this sleepy farming Valley is now readily acknowledged as a leading wine growing region. I've had my hands in the dirt here for practically my whole life, and when the siren's song of winemaking hit me, I knew I had a rare advantage. Great wine is the product of great grapes, and I just happened to know where to find some. In 2005, I launched the Vinifera Vineyards label as a nod to my family roots, and as an homage to the many pioneers who set out to share their passion for Napa Valley wine with the world. About Napa ValleyView a map of Napa Valley wineries
It's hard not to think of Napa Valley when thinking of California wines. The region is, after all, the one that brought world recognition to California wine making. The area was settled by a few choice wine families in the 1960's who bet that the wines of the area would grow and flourish. They were right. The Napa wine industry really took off in the 1980's, when vineyard lands were scooped up and vines were planted throughout the county. A number of wineries emerged, from large conglomerates to small boutiques to cult classics. Cabernet Sauvignon is definitely the grape of choice here, with many winemakers also focusing on Bordeaux Blends. Whites are usually Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
Notable FactsWithin the Napa Valley lie smaller sub-AVAs that lend even more character specifics to the wines. Furthest south is Carneros, followed by Yountville, Oakville & Rutherford. Above those two is St.-Helena and finally, just grated an AVA, Calistoga. These areas are situated on the valley floor and are known for creating rich, smooth Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay. There are a few mountain regions as well, nestled on the slopes overlooking the valley AVAs. Those include Howell Mountain, Stags Leap and Mount Veeder. Wines from the mountain regions are often more structured and firm, benefiting from more time in the bottle to evolve and soften.

A full-bodied, fruity wine. This wine was not as dry to me as its description. It was a little sweet and not as heavy as some cabs, but it was still very nice. A good wine to buy again!
