Winemaker Notes

Opening with a sultry mix of crème de cassis, blackberriesand crushed stone, this wine is as generous and giving as itis elegant and sophisticated. Hints of camphor and licoricemingle with tobacco leaves and graphite on the palate. emouthfeel is full and rich showcasing firm, sweet tanninsand a bright acidity. Our 2012 29 Estate CabernetSauvignon will benefit from generous decanting in its youthand will develop gracefully for 20 to 25 years.

Stunning, but a more classic and elegant wine without any of the scorched earth , Graves-like character of the Aida Vineyard is the classic 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon 29 Estate. This is a fabulous property on the lower hillsides of the Mayacamas Mountains. A blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot aged in 100% new French oak, the 2012 is inky purple, with a gorgeous nose of lead pencil shavings, spring flowers, blackberry and blueberry fruit, cedar wood and baking spices. Dense, multi-layered, full-bodied and beautifully pure, this is a stunner to drink over the next 20-25 years. There are 760 cases.

One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wine. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other. But it wasn’t until the 1970s that this marriage came to light; sudden international recognition rained upon Napa with the victory of the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1976 Judgement of Paris.

Cabernet Sauvignon undoubtedly dominates Napa Valley today, covering half of the land under vine, commanding the highest prices per ton and earning the most critical acclaim. Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure, acidity, capacity to thrive in multiple environs and ability to express nuances of vintage make it perfect for Napa Valley where incredible soil and geographical diversity are found and the climate is perfect for grape growing. Within the Napa Valley lie many smaller sub-AVAs that express specific characteristics based on situation, slope and soil—as a perfect example, Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
