Alcohol By Volume: 14.0%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

"The 2005 Venta Mazzarron is one of the finest values in Spanish wine. Made from 100% Tinta de Toro, it offers up a smoky, complex bouquet with notes of mineral and blackberry. Ripe, sweet, forward, and altogether pleasurable, it can be enjoyed over the next 6-8 years."

This is one of the better value wines I have found this year. Wish I had bought more. Good Tempranillo profile, fades a little on the finish, but who cares for the $. Have tried on second day and still held up reasonably well.

Needed long breathing time, at least 45 minutes. Alcohol itself smelled similar to rubbing alcohol. The fruit of the wine was very nice though, once the bottle was opened long enough.
