Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Brunate in La Morra is one of the most famous "crus" of all Barolo area; this vintage is particularly interesting because it's very easy to recognize the "terroir" in the wine. Intense ruby red. Dry, with generous body, harmoniously balanced and velvety texture. Classic, ripe red-fruit, long finish, rich and very elegant. Spices, violet, plums and intense tar, very typical for the Brunate vineyard.

Critical Acclaim

"Dark red fruit, iron, new leather and smoke all jump from the 2010 Barolo Brunate. A huge, dense, powerful Barolo, the 2010 Brunate boasts stunning depth and sheer richness. At the same time, though, it is incredibly polished for such a big wine. The Brunate brings together the power of the Lazzarito, but with a greater sense of textural polish and finesse that is typical of the Rocche. In 2010, the Brunate is all about balance and harmony."
97 Points

"A 2010 Barolo with beautiful balance and complexity with rose, plum and hints of sandalwood. Full body, with integrated tannins and along and seamless finish. Best Brunate of the vintage."
96 Points

"Warm and generous, with floral, cherry and raspberry and a firm, mineral finish. Barrel Tasting
Range: 92-95 Points"
95 Points

"Good bright red. Closed nose offers ineffable soil tones to complement raspberry and menthol. Tight, juicy and imploded but already shows outstanding precision to its primary flavors of crushed berries, minerals and brown spices. Wonderful energy and restrained sweetness here, not to mention huge material to support its serious tannic spine. Finishes with outstanding mineral persistence.

Range: 94+ Points"

Patriarch Mario Vietti, starting from 1919 made the first Vietti wines, selling most of the production in Italy. His most significant achievement was to transform the family farm,...

Learn About Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo(neh-bee-OH-low) The King of Piedmont Nebbiolo is the key grape in the wines of Barolo and Barbaresco. It is not the most planted variety, but it does make the most distinctive and age-worthy wines. Native to Piedmont, Nebbiolo is a bit of a soil snob - it's finicky about where it grows and has long been the honored red grape of Northern Italy...
