Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

All Vavasour wines are 100% varietal and true, honest expressions of their Awatere Valley terroir. A serious, concentrated and expressive wine, Vavasour Sauvignon Blanc flaunts a powerful bouquet of fresh herbs and tropical fruits layered with ripe stone fruit and bright citrus. The wine is crisp, balanced and elegant with a distinctive mineral note that holds up well to rich, spicy foods.

Critical Acclaim

"Pale yellow. Pungent aromas of lemon, pineapple and grapefruit zest, tarragon and anise. Supple and intense, with a captivating hint of sweetness to its brisk flavors of citrus peel, fresh herbs and green pepper. A bit hardened today by CO2 but this is ultimately a generous wine. Nicely perfumed in the middle and on the echoing aftertaste, which offers a tangy dusty quality, hints of minerals and underripe pineapple, and very good grip. I like this vibrant style."

Style: Light & Crisp
This wine was simply fantastic. Beautiful color and body. Wonderfully fragrant with notes of citrus and spice, light bodies, slight tang. I advise to let breathe for at least 10 minutes to appreciate the true fragrance and flavor, it's a bit hard if sipped right after opening. Aftertaste is lingering and zesty. Had this at a wine and cheese party, was a huge hit - will be ordering again!
