Winemaker Notes

The wine is more green/ gold in colour and shows clean, tight, Chardonnay fruit and a lift of charred oak on both the nose and the palate. The finish is dominated by the fresh citrus acid that will be the hallmark of the vintage.

Although this is a big, full bodied style, the high acid finish adds that finesse that sets Vat 47 apart from Australia's other premium Chardonnays. This is a wine of both character and finesse that will continue to improve and develop in the bottle until 2010.

In 1858, Edward Tyrrell planted his first vines in the Hunter Valley. In 1959, Murray Tyrrell took control of the winery and started producing Tyrrell’s wines under their own labels. Tyrrell’s pioneered Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in Australia and quickly received international recognition. While remaining a family company, Tyrrell’s has reached out to larger wine markets: in recent years, it has expanded its traditional Hunter Valley vineyard base to other famous vineyard areas in Australia.
