The color is deep magenta with black hues.
On the nose, red to black fruit characters of
raspberries and red currants
intermingle with darker cherry like
chocolate aromas. Subtle black
pepper and smoky notes, graphite
and scorched earth add complexity.
The palate opens gently with refined
definition, nicely accentuated by a
solid core of fruit weight without
heaviness. The acid balance supports
the very long but fine tannins.
"Rich, dense and dark, with a cool overlay to the fruit; there is an element of cranberry complementing the tar, earth, spice and well-handled oak that delivers not only on the bouquet, but also on the palate; bright and clean on the finish."
Australian Wine Companion
"Inky purple. Spicy black cherry, blackcurrant, tar, licorice and potpourri on the nose, all lifted by a mineral topnote. Big and rich but juicy, offering gently sweet dark berry flavors and notes of candied violet and spicecake. Impressively broad and focused, with good extract and building notes of tangy berry skin and herbs. Finishes with gentle tannins and refreshing energy."
International Wine Cellar
"Blackish-purple hue. Aromatic bouquet of smoked meat, sweet maple and plum. Silky, mouth-coating entry of bright cherry fruit supported by firm, backing tannins. Well-balanced, pretty finish showcases baker's chocolate and a thread of cedar."
The Wine News
"Silky, open-textured and utterly beguiling for its exuberant raspberry and plum fruit, sailing smoothly over the tannins in pinpoint balance. Picks up savory notes as the finish persists. Drink now through 2014. 180 cases imported."
