Wine Style Guide

Light & Fruity

Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.

Smooth & Supple

Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Big & Bold

Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.

Alcohol By Volume: 14.8%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

The grapes for Two Angels come from the renowned Shannon Ridge Vineyards, extremely volcanic, red pumice stone terroir. Hugging the mountain rims along the east edge of the High Valley AVA at close to 2,200 feet (the highest vineyards in California), the area is reminiscent of the Rhone Valley's Crozes-Hermitage vineyards. All the grapes for this wine came from a vineyard with a slope of 40 degrees. The fruit was all hand-picked and hand-sorted before cold soaking and a long, cool fermentation. The wine ages for ten months using 25-percent new French oak.

The 2007 Two Angels Petite Sirah is "dark as the night" and boasts savory aromas of ripe, dark berries (blackberry, boysenberry and raspberry), violets, and ripe plum, with a hint of roast game. Abundant fruit flavors in this well-structured wine are nicely integrated with toasted oak and a touch of black licorice.

I may use it in some cooking but very disappointing. Too syrup like.

Learn About Two Angels

Two Angels, a line of Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah and Petite Sirah owned by the Kreps family, with grapes coming from the renowned Shannon Ridge vineyards in the High Valley AVA, Lake County, California.

The label art for Two Angels was created by Jacob de Backer in 1591 and the theme is the hilarity of inebreation and the trauma of the morning after. Excessive joy must be countered by equally excessive sorrow, with penitential atonement for pleasure.

The northernmost California winegrowing regions, these two counties are right above Napa and Sonoma, geographically. Yet, wine-wise they are very different - both from their southern neighbors and from each other. Notable Facts Mendocino...

Learn About Petite Sirah

Petite Sirah(peh-TEET seer-AH) Not So Small There is nothing petite about this grape. Petite Sirah, the result of a crossing between Syrah and Peloursin, is also known as Durif. Being the father, Syrah imparted some of its flavors and characteristics to its offspring, but the two grapes are decisively different. Petite Sirah is mostly found in California, where it gained...
