The Hayne Vineyard is one of our most exceptional sites. Located in an idyllic warm yet breezy spot on the west side of St. Helena, we are honored to have worked with this vineyard and the Hayne family for the past twenty years. The head-trained, dry-farmed Zinfandel vines were planted in 1902 and 1903, and they produce wines of power and elegance year in and year out.
"Good full ruby. Blackberry and crushed pepper aromas are lifted by an exotic nuance. Creamy and lush but with excellent verve, already conveying a strong impression of personality. The intense blackberry, black cherry and licorice flavors are lifted by lovely violet perfume. Wonderfully floral, elegant zinfandel with superb sappy thrust. Stains the palate on the finish, offering suave tannins, a magically light touch and penetrating black cherry and floral flavors.Range: 93-96"

"Few wineries can make Zinfandel with nearly 16% alcohol by volume and get away with it, but Turley can, as evidenced by this gorgeous wine. Even though there is an overripe raisin flavor, this becomes an integral part of the wine's profile. It's dry and balanced, softly complex and layered in textures and flavors. Pair this with almost anything off the grill."
"From vines planted in 1902, 2010 Zinfandel Hayne Vineyard is pure refinement in the glass. Subtle and gracious, the 2010 caresses the palate with layers of sweet red-hued fruit. The Hayne is an easy wine to underestimate, as its qualities aren’t quite as obvious as those of other wines, but make no mistake about it, this super polished wine has a lot going for it. A finessed, silky finish rounds things out in style. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2025."
Vinous / Antonio Galloni
"An excellent Zin in a difficult vintage. Lacks plushness but remains focused, with bright tannins and acidity. This is jammed with dense boysenberry, rosemary and licorice flavors and aromatic black cherry and cracked pepper aromas."
It's hard not to think of Napa Valley when thinking of California wines. The region is, after all, the one that brought world recognition to California wine making. The area was settled by a few choice wine families in the 1960's who bet that the wines of the area would grow and flourish. They were right. The Napa wine industry really took off in the 1980's, when vineyard...Read More About Napa Valley
Zinfandel the American - or Californian - grape. Although it's not from America
(Croatia has been named its origin),
it does seem quite at home in the vineyards of California.
During Prohibition, many
Zinfandel vines survived as the high-yielding grape was popular both for home winemaking and communion wine, which is...Read More About Zinfandel
