Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Stefano Chioccioli, renowned in Italy for his expertise in both the vineyard and the cellar, is the winemaker at the estate—and his Tua Rita Syrah is certainly a beautiful expression of the variety. Yields are kept to a minimum to ensure concentration of flavors. Remarkably layered and complex this Syrah is a sumptuous wine possessing superb balance in a fullbodied style. With beautifully integrated tannins and pure harmony in the glass, this wine is a must for every collector of fine Tuscan wines.

This intensely concentrated 100% Syrah boasts spicy notes of dark ripe fruit such as blackberries and plums with a long finish. Fullbodied with perfectly integrated tannins, it offers an intriguing bouquet that includes cracked black pepper, chocolate, smoked bacon and a hint of mint. This voluptuous, inky wine is aged in 100% new French oak barrels for one year and then transferred to another set of 100% new French barrels for a second year. This thoroughbred treatment results in a wine of superb complexity with a hint of sweet toasty oak. Pairs well with all lamb preparations, as well as beef, pork, venison and hearty stews with rosemary, thyme and other powerful herbs.

Critical Acclaim

"The estate's 2007 Syrah explodes from the glass with cracked black pepper, cured meats, blueberry jam and sweet spices. This is a remarkably muscular, full-throttle Syrah that offers exceptional balance and tons of complexity. Mineral-infused black fruit, graphite and crushed rocks are some of the nuances that inform the long, refreshing finish. In 2007, the Syrah is Tua Rita's flagship wine. "
96 Points

"Displays loads of flowers, with licorice and mint combining with crushed dark fruits. Full-bodied, with supersilky tannins and vanilla, blueberry, licorice and coconut flavors on the finish. Long and very polished."
