Winemaker's Notes

Our Haystack Cabernet is true to its mountain origins. The wine boasts intense purple color and floral aromatics. Firm tannins are gracefully balanced by luscious ripe black fruit flavors and nuances of coffee, baking spice and cocoa.

Critical Acclaim

"The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Haystack Vineyard from Atlas Peak gets my top points. Made of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot, this is a dense purple-colored wine with a serious aromatic expression filled with espresso roast, black chocolate, creme de cassis, and rose petals. Full-bodied, with beautiful texture, sweet tannin, and stunning concentration, this is a dense, opulent, blockbuster style of Cabernet Sauvignon that will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring and last for 20-25 years. "
93 Points

"A wonderful Cabernet, rich and dry. The alcohol is fairly high, but in keeping with the wine's power. The fruity blackberry and currant flavors are balanced by refreshingly earthy notes of olives and sweet herbs. Should develop through 2013."

The area was settled by a few choice wine families in the 1960's who bet that the wines of the area would grow and flourish. They were right. The Napa wine industry really took off in the 1980's, when vineyard...

Perhaps that title is due to its ability to grow worldwide in a number of climates, or to the fact that it produces wine with such character yet such diversity. Either way, this grape is responsible, as a whole or a partner, for some of the greatest wines in the world. In Bordeaux,...
