Winemaker's Notes

The challenge with the Tin Cows Pinot Noir has been to make a wine that is distinctly Pinot Noir with intensity of aroma and flavour, enjoyable in its youth, reasonably priced, and keeps the accountants happy! The last is a task at the best of times, but with this variety the combination is more elusive. The 2000 Tin Cows is the closest we have come to satisfying everyone.

This wine is made from 100% Yarra Valley fruit grown on the TarraWarra vineyards. The fruit is all destemmed before fermentation in open pot fermenters. The wine is pressed to barrel for malolactic fermentation, and aged in oak for 8 months before bottling.

The aroma is of ripe black berries and plums with a hint of oak. The palate combines soft sweet fruit with fine tannins giving length and structure. The overall effect is a rich wine that fills the palate and the senses.
