Style: Smooth & Supple

Wine Style Guide

Light & Fruity

Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.

Smooth & Supple

Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Big & Bold

Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.

Alcohol By Volume: 13.0%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Boastful sunshine is clearly expressed in this wine with its ripe flavors and a velvety texture. The licorice and mineral notes give the wine a fresh character, in complete harmony with its legendary terroir.

Critical Acclaim

"This is on the burly side, with cocoa and ganache notes followed by a hint of roasted chestnut, while dark currant, fig and coffee notes fill in behind them. There’s a muscular feel on the finish."
95 Points

"Opaque purple. Deeply pitched aromas of blackcurrant and cherry, with anise and black olive nuances adding complexity. Intensely flavored and chewy in texture, offering bitter cherry and dark fruit compote flavors and slow-building spiciness. Fine-grained tannins add grip to the long, focused, very persistent finish."

Unfortunately bought 3 btls of this. Even though this is an entry level Hermitage at a fair price; this wine is just not for me. In my mind the worst Hermitage I've ever had.

Learn About Tardieu-Laurent Map ItMap It

Domaine Tardieu-Laurent was established in 1994. It is a partnership between Dominique Laurent, a former pattisier (and with the girth to go with it) and one of the hottest names in Burgundy, and Michel Tardieu, a dynamic young winemaker. Tardieu-Laurent is an extremely unusual operation in that they are a negociant only, buying young wines from growers all over the Rhone, which...

Learn About Hermitage

(EHR-me-tahj) and Crozés-Hermitage (krohz EHR-me-tahj) The hill of Hermitage is something to be seen. It is a hill (just one hill) of only about 300 acres, with carefully terraced vines in granite based-soil. The soils of the hill are plotted to make sure that the best variety is planted in the best plot of soil, and the wines reflect those decisions. The hill is...

Learn About Syrah/Shiraz

(seh-RAH/shee-RAHZ) It's a Smokin' Grape Syrah and Shiraz - same grape, different name. It's a popular and adept variety, growing in multiple regions and creating many different styles of wine. The home base of Syrah is the Northern Rhone, where it creates the exclusive wines of Hermitage and Cote Rotie. On the less pricy side, the Rhone makes Syrah-based wines in Crozes...
