The vintage was exceptional with a fairly cool summer and then a glorious Indian summer in September, October and November. These conditions led to both a longer than usual hang time and very ripe fruit. Because the fruit ripened so late in the season, the nighttime temperatures were quite low which contributed to high natural acidity at very high sugar levels. It was truly a winemakers dream. Color was very dark from the start and has held nicely. The flavors are deep, complex and very ripe without being cloying or flabby. Because of the fruits combined brightness from natural acidity and dark brooding aromas due to a high degree of ripeness, the overall impression is one of balance and power. Fermented in small (1.5 ton) open top containers, punched down by hand, pressed directly to barrel, and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
