Critical Acclaim

"Bright medium ruby. Scented, high-pitched, very pure nose offers blackberry, exotic spices, flinty minerality and a whiff of meat. Densely packed and seamless but also sharply delineated, with a saline, smoky minerality and a bit of oak influence partly hiding the wine's inherent sweetness of fruit. Dry, meaty, classic syrah with a wonderfully chewy, palate-saturating finish. Showed increasing pliancy and nuance as it opened in the glass. "

"The 2009 Syrah Hilltop comes across as massively powerful yet compact within the context of the other 2009s here. Interestingly, its bouquet is much more expressive, where sweet white flowers and all sorts of minerals add considerable complexity and a higher-toned register to the fruit. A blast of dark raspberries and black plums frames the long, intense finish."

Learn About Stolpman Vineyards

Stolpman Vineyards is located in Ballard Canyon, just 15 miles from the coast. The location lends to warm days with cool nights. Tom and Marilyn Stolpman planted their first grapes in 1992 and today have 120 planted acres. The vineyard continues to be a dynamic location for the planting of Syrah, Sangiovese and Rousanne. Jeff Newton and Larry Finkle, along with our Vineyard Manager, Ruben Solorzano, have recently planted high density vines and continue to explore the standards of what it takes to make the best quality grapes from southern exposed vines and limestone soil.
