Alcohol By Volume: 14.9%
Alcohol By Volume Guide
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.
The 2009 Staglin fills the glass with a brooding swirl of rich, dark fruits, resinous herbs and rain dampened loam illuminated by polished hints of sweet baking spices, aromatic woods and exotic liqueurs. A juicy and inviting entry builds to a generous, balanced yet lively mid-palate that slides towards a graceful and fine-grained finish of well developed and classy tannins. Complex and beautiful now, this wine will generously reward sufficient decanting and additional time in bottle.
"The dense blue/purple-colored 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate possesses a complex bouquet of black cherry and black currant liqueur, forest floor, baking spice and subtle background oak. This rich, complex, full-bodied 2009 is just beginning to open and show tertiary nuances. It should continue to age well for 20-25 years. "
The Wine Advocate
"The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon is bursting with primal energy. Sweet floral notes meld into juicy red berries, spice box and cedar, all of which are laced together with remarkable elegance. Silky tannins add to an impression of refinement and total finesse. In 2009, Staglin's Cabernet Sauvignon impresses for its superb delineation and nuance. The 2009 can be enjoyed with minimum cellaring if given a few hours in decanter."
Vinous / Antonio Galloni
"This pure, elegant red delivers supple, refined red berry, black cherry and subtle spicy-floral scents. Offers less richness than some Staglins, yet shows delicacy and finesse. Drink now through 2024"
"Saturated medium ruby. Exotic crushed berries, mocha and lead pencil on the nose; a bit less complex than the 2010. Chewy and strong if a bit rougher and warmer than the young '10, with black cherry and licorice flavors joined by smoke, loam and chocolatey oak. Ultimately pliant and sweet but the substantial dusty tannins will require at least three or four years to harmonize.
Range: 92+ Points"
