Rich, lifted aromas of grapefruit, kiwi, lime and fennel are encompassed by a subtle yet engaging toasted smoky note of new French oak. Crisp lychee and grapefruit flavors combine with green lime zest and a bright citrus appeal, while the toasted qualities of the barrel maturation have encouraged a full, rich mouth feel along with a subtle creaminess from the sur-lie maturation. This is a rich and flavorful Sauvignon Blanc.
"The Dollarhide Ranch is a large 1,500-acre bowl in Pope Valley where cattle once grazed, now planted to vines. Parcel 5, a small block of deep, loamy soils on the northern bench of the hills, provides most of the fruit for this sauvignon blanc, consistently one of the best grown in Napa Valley. The 2011 has the pungency of fresh citrus, of tart white cherries and persimmon. The intensity of flavor lends it a red fruit character, while the texture is as fat as a scallop. It's rich enough and brisk enough to accompany seared sea scallops or grilled Pacific swordfish. "
