Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

The 2009 Villages Cuvee Pinot noir reflects the signature of Oregon's 2009 vintage: fresh bright fruit. Its nose of bright red and dark fruit is enhanced by complex floral and layered sweet ground spices. It is quite rich in the mouth with sweet cherry and red berry flavors with spice, pepper, and floral notes. The Villages Cuvée will benefit from being opened and decanted for 1-2 hours. Bottled in September '10, it is very approachable now and can be aged up to 6 years to gain complexity. Its freshness and depth of flavor make it a great match for a wide variety of medium-flavored preparations.

Critical Acclaim

"Deep red. Spicy redcurrant, cherry pit, herbs and woodsmoke on the nose. Offers an attractive silky texture, tangy red berry flavors and a light touch, with a bitter chocolate note gaining power with air. Finishes with tangy cut and refreshingly spicy bite, which will make it work with light or richer foods. A very good value. "
