Winemaker's Notes

A blend of 76% Petite Sirah, 10% Dornfelder and 14% Proprietary Dry Red Blend.

The challenge with Petite Sirahis taming the tannins that naturally exist within the grape due to the berry size and high skin-to-juice ratio. To create a refined and approachable style, we start with Lodi as the focus appellation. Older vines and warmer temperatures ensure grape maturity. Fermenting all of the lots in stainless steel allows us to capture Petite Sirah'sintense berry fruit flavors. We also age select lots in stainless steel to maintain the brightness and acidity. These are blended with lots aged in French and American oak, lending undertones of vanilla crème bruléewhile softening the tannins and enhancing the structure. All factors combine to create a balanced style that is unmistakably Petite Sirah. Our signature 2007 Petite Sirahoffers rich, approachable, full-bodied flavors and supple tannins. The Lodi appellation fruit, aged in handcrafted, small oak barrels, provides backbone and structure to this lovely wine. Enjoy with friends!

Being the father, Syrah imparted some of its flavors and characteristics to its offspring, but the two grapes are decisively different. Petite Sirah is mostly found in California, where it gained...
