Spellbound Petite Sirah 2005

This Petite Sirah offers rich, full-bodied flavors of ripe berry fruits with supple tannins. An easy drinking wine for casual weeknight meals and great with BBQ. 98% Petite Sirah, 2% other red varietals.

The challenge with Petite Sirah is taming the tannins that naturally exist within the grape due to the berry size and high skin to juice ratio. To create a refined and approachable style, we start with fruit from Lodi, where older vines and warmer temperatures ensure full grape maturity. Fermenting in stainless steel captures the bright berry fruit intensity, and select lots continue to age in stainless to maintain that brightness and acidity. The remaining lots are aged in French and American oak, which lends undertones of toasty vanilla while softening the tannins and enhancing the structure. All these factors combine to create a balanced style that is unmistakably Petite Sirah.
