The 2007 vintage is a stunning multifaceted wine, one of the best we have produced from this vineyard. It has
intriguing aromas of spice, cherry, and concentrated fruit: restrained, but very complex. The multiple flavors
feature a toasty, dusty-cherry component so typical of the Fiddletown area. The finish is long and lingering, and
invites another taste.
96% Lubenko Vineyard Zinfandel, Fiddletown
4% Petite Syrah
"A thoroughly enjoyable Zinfandel that shows the variety's lusty character, but with special grace and finesse. Bone dry and richly tannic, it has complex flavors of blackberries, blueberries and currants, with earthier notes of tobacco, leather and unsweetened dark chocolate. Very fine.Editors' Choice"
"Grown at the Lubenko Vineyard from head-pruned vines planted in 1910, this is an intensely concentrated, bowl-you-over zin that manages to stay in balance. There's an iron-rich soil character that keeps it savory against the purple fruit, which will need time in bottle to grow more expressive. Scents of dark mushrooms, chili spice and leather all add to the complexity. Decant this several hours before dinner if you open it now, to serve with braised lamb."

The Sobon Estate winery started in 1989 when Leon and Shirley Sobon bought each other a second winery for their 30th wedding anniversary present. They purchased the historic D'Agostini winery, one of the oldest in the state. This site was chosen not only for its historical winery, but also its vineyards and vineyard land. The Sobon Estate label launched the estate line of wines from the Sobon Family, the best from their own grapes.

Zinfandel remains the grape of choice here, followed by Rhone Blends. Volcanic...Read More About Sierra Foothills
Zinfandel the American - or Californian - grape. Although it's not from America
(Croatia has been named its origin),
it does seem quite at home in the vineyards of California.
During Prohibition, many
Zinfandel vines survived as the high-yielding grape was popular both for home winemaking and communion wine, which is...Read More About Zinfandel
