Winemaker's Notes:
Deep red in color with a touch of purple, our 2008 California Syrah is once again likely to be the hidden gem in the Smoking Loon wines. The intense dark fruit on the nose has layers of blackberry, cassis, and black olive, well-balanced with hints of vanilla and brandy-soaked cherries. Rich berry cobbler flavors on the palate underscore the fruit-forwardness of this Syrah. Notes of cedar from the long, steady oak aging are well-integrated with the massive fruit flavor. Silky and medium-bodied like a Pinot Noir, our Syrah finishes with dark cherry and milk chocolate flavors, and a nice, bright acidity.
A juicy rib eye or New York steak topped with caramelized onions would pair well with the rich, dark flavors of our Smoking Loon Syrah. Try this with Korean Barbeque, or a grilled blackened chicken breast.
